Receiving your geology.byu.edu email

You can receive your Geology email from home using an email reader, like MS Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger (click on the links to go to instructions for your email reader).

MS Outlook Express
In Outlook Express, select 'Tools' 'Accounts'.
In the 'Internet Accounts' dialog box be sure the 'Mail' tab is selected and click 'Add' 'Mail...'.
Follow the Internet Connection Wizard Instructions, inputting "geology.byu.edu" as the Incoming mail server (as seen at left).

You cannot use the Geology server to send mail from off-campus for security purposes, so input another server's name as the Outgoing mail server  (like your ISP's mail server). 

Your Account name includes your Geology Account User ID, and should be entered as shown at left.  If your User ID for the Geology Network is 'kms27', then enter '.kms27.geology' as your Account name, and enter your password as usual.

Click 'Next' 'Finish' 'Close'.
 

 

You may now receive email from your Geology account by clicking 'Send/Recv', and send emails from another server by clicking the same button.

 

Netscape Messenger
You can get to Netscape Messenger by selecting 'Edit' 'Preferences' while in the Netscape Navigator internet browser.
The 'Preferences' dialog box will pop up.  Click on the '+' sign next to 'Mail & Newsgroups' to see all the preferences for that category.  Click on Identity and enter Your name and Email address (your Geology email address).
Click on the 'Mail Servers' subcategory and input an Outgoing mail server.  Due to security reasons, you cannot send mail from off-campus using your Geology email address, so input another outgoing email server (like your ISP's server).

Then click the 'Add...' button.
Enter the Server Name as "geology.byu.edu" and change the Server Type to 'POP3 Server'.  Your User Name includes your Geology Account User ID, and should be entered as shown at left.  If your User ID for the Geology Network is 'kms27', then enter '.kms27.geology' as your User Name.  Check any other preferences as suit you.

Click 'OK' twice when you have entered this information.

To now access your email, click the 'Inbox' button in the lower right of your Netscape browser (the second icon from the left) or select 'Communicator' 'Messenger'.
