Using LDAP to send an email

LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) allows users to search a local database for email addresses and other information about people in the directory. BYU provides such a directory for all students, faculty and staff at the University.  You can use LDAP within your email client (Pegasus, MS Outlook Express, or Netscape Messenger) to access the BYU Email database.
