Depositional Environments
- Here you will find a reconstruction of the Cretaceous Gates Formation--a wave dominated
shoreline in northeastern British Columbia. Clicking on a three dimensional block diagram
of the ancient environments reveals images of rocks typical of the environment. As you
will see, rocks of very similar characteristics may occur in more than one environment.
Interpretation of depositional environment relies on looking at each rock in its
stratigraphic context. Maintained by University of British Columbia.
-
- Jurassic
Reef Park
- Virtual fieldtrip of a Jurassic reef in Germany and modern environments where similar
rocks are forming today. Maintained by the University of Stuttgart.
